Loi Odemo, 62, has lived in Kibera as long as she can remember. She joined KCU in 2012. To support five orphaned children she sells charcoal and does laundry. She increased her stock of charcoal with the first loan of $60.00. At the time, there was no school fee fund for the second cluster of families, and the fees ate into her profits. The KCU voulnteers helped her to get back on her feet and she was advanced another $60 loan which she repaid successfully. She is currently repaying a third loan of $60. Loi and the other elderly beneficiaries are a source solace to the younger ones. She believes the children in this project will play a leading role in Kenya’s future.
