Josephine Kemunto, 36, has lived Kibera for 12 years. Living in Kibera was cheap, and close to where her husband was working. They always planned to move to a better neighbourhood once things improved. However, rather than improve, things worsened. To make ends meet, Josephine started selling raw bananas and used her tailoring skills. Josephine has 4 birth children and 1 orphaned child. She has taken two loans amounting to $120. The initial loan was paid in full and on time, but she has had problems settling the second, since she lost one of her children recently. The Village of Love volunteers are working with her to see that she fulfills her contract to supply school uniforms to one of the nursery schools in her neighbourhood, serving about forty children. She hopes that one day she will be able to transport bananas from her home in bulk and own a tailoring shop. (Information recorded in 2013)
