On Saturday evening, November 8th, Andrew and Leonora Obara will deliver the first presentation of their 2014 Toronto visit at a charity dinner organised by Canadian Samaritans For Africa. They will share a speakers platform with The Hon. David Kilgour, former Canadian Secretary of State for Latin America and Africa and Dr. Robert Calderisi, former Head of the African Desk, World Bank and author of the best seller, “The Trouble With Africa: Why Foreign Aid Isn’t Working.” These two eminent Canadians will call on faith-based organisations to support African development. The goal of the evening is to show how supporting the assets of Africans at a grassroots level can offer a better way to achieve sustainable African development.
The theme for the evening is “Africa’s March To Modernity: Building On The Assets Of Women.” We will hear Aysh M. Koca from the Intercultural Dialogue Institute, Toronto, call for women’s development across cultures and religion, and Dr. Stan Chu Ilo, Founder of CSA, speak on “The Power of We.”
Village of Love is one of five organisations to be showcased as modelling a better way, by empowering women through micro-credit and sending vulnerable children to school. Andrew and Leonora will share how Village of Love is changing lives in the Kibera slum community.
Dwayne Morgan, poet, social activist, musician and entertainer will be the MC for the event. Together with a “Taste of Africa” dinner, African music, dancers and beautiful African artifacts for auction, it will be an entertaining, thought provoking and inspiring evening.
