When Winnie, Shaddy and Samwel’s mother died, their future and that of their four siblings was bleak. Their father could not care for them. He left them at a Catholic church, and they have not seen or heard from him since. Orphaned and abandoned, their sense of self worth was very low. What could they hope for in life?
Then their mother’s sister, Millicent, took them into her home, along with her own seven children. Millicent is a community health worker, receiving a small paycheck from WOFAK (Women Fighting AIDs in Africa). She supplements this income through a business where she sells fish, tomatos and eggs.
With fourteen children to feed, clothe and send to school, Millicent has been very grateful for Village of Love micro-loans to boost her business, and supplement school fees!
The children love being in school. Now they have big dreams. Winnie wants to become a doctor so that she can help people to get well. Shaddy wants to be a banker. Joshua (13) sees maths as “the key to life” and he wants to become a pilot. Samwel is very good at maths. He scored 2nd out of 103 students. He dreams of becoming an engineer.
With the support of Millicent’s loving family and Village of Love, these children have a good chance of realising their dreams!
